So I am getting some time off from work (finally) coming up. And since it's Friday, I am completely useless here at work. It's 1:37 pm and I've checked out for the day. I've actually been Googling Jessica Simpson pics for the last half-hour.
It's hard to describe how glad I am that this Barry Bonds crap is all over with. No doubt we'll probably still get force fed with news from Barry, but at least we won't have to watch every single time he comes up to bat to see if he hits a home run. I still think it's all fake. Rick Reilly of Sports Illustrated referred to Bonds breaking the record as the "Fake Break." So today I watched a dude named William Rhoden from the NY Times defend Barry and say this: "This is one of the greatest records in sports, and we have just witnessed one of the great accomplishments in sports, period." (Find the entire video here.) Ummmmm okay...well that still doesn't change the fact that Barry broke the record by using performance enhancing drugs, does it?
Bob Costas countered with this to Rhoden's argument: "He was a great, great player to begin with. But it doesn't suffice to say, "Well, it takes great skill and he was already great, and, therefore, none of this should be questioned." If Babe Ruth somehow took a spectacular elixir in 1927 and went from hitting 60 home runs and batting .340 to hitting 100 home runs and batting .440, it wouldn't suffice to say, "Well, he's the Sultan of Swat, he's the Bambino, he was the best ever to begin with, so what's the big deal?"
What's the big deal? He went from great to superhuman. That's what happened to Barry Bonds.
So there isn't much left to say about Barry Bonds. It's all been said by just about everyone. Hopefully, Barry Bonds will just go away for at least a little while. Once pro & college football start up, no one will really care about Bonds or baseball anyway. So that's something to look forward to.
So you read it correctly. I am going on vacation this whole next week. Words can't describe how happy that last sentence makes me feel. I have no clue what I am going to be doing. I don't know where I will be going. However the important thing is that I won't be doing any work or going anywhere near work. I will gladly take suggestions for vacation activities, so email me if you have any good ones.
I will gladly hang out with anyone as long as you bring money and it's fun. I am getting ready to move house and I need to save at least a little bit of cash for that. Or you can help me move into my new place. That would be both cheap AND fun.
So that is pretty much it for now. Here is a video that'll make you hurt a little bit. Pretty brutal.
