Sports Related Thoughts From the Past Two Days

Today was a great day. I was able to watch college football from 9:30 am until 9:30 pm. A whole 12 hours worth. I know, I know, it is quite impressive. I totally agree with you there. I watched parts of Illinois-Wisconsin, Tennessee-Georgia, Oklahoma-Texas, Arizona State-Washington State, about one and a half minutes of UCLA-Notre Dame, and finished off the day with the LSU-Florida game in it's entirety.

If you asked me what a perfect Saturday is like, it would go something exactly like today.

I would have to say that last night was pretty rad as well. Come to think of it, this part of the year is the best as far as the sports world goes. You have baseball playoffs going on, college football has started getting really good, and the NFL is in full stride. The only time of year that can compare is March Madness, but even that is a distant second.

Anyway, there were a few random thoughts I've had over the past two days that I would like to share. And here they are, in no particular order.

**The Red Sox are going to win the World Series. I am almost certain of this.
After watching game two last night, the revelation has come to me that the Sox have a little bit of the magic back that they need to make a good run at the World Series title. I am feeling just like I felt back in 2004. Of course, this opinion of mine is completely biased and is worth as much as anyone else's opinion.

I mean, did anyone see that home run by Manny last night?? He nearly hit it to the next block down the street. As of right now, I fully expect the Sox to finish off the Angels and sweep the next series on their way to winning the title. Oh and it just so happens that their pitching is doing a phenomenal job. I am predicting a Red Sox-Colorado Rockies world series right now. Red Sox will win it in 6.

**The college football rankings are a complete mess right now, after what happened today.
Bad news of the day. USC got beat today by Stanford. They are already calling it the biggest upset in the history of college football. Well it's not the biggest upset in the history of anything. I really hate when they say stuff like that. But in losing, they lost all claim of being the number one team in the nation. That's the worst part about them losing.

The Pac-10 had a pretty bad day overall. USC and UCLA both got smoked. That doesn't help the "Who's better? The Pac-10 or SEC" argument. So I guess I can't trash on the SEC too much this week. Which is one of my favorite things to do, so I'll have to manage without it for a week at least.

People, I hate to keep harping on it, but LSU is quickly becoming public enemy number one for me. LSU won their game against Florida tonight, 28-24. It was a good game to watch. I still find it interesting how LSU has scheduled all of their tough match up games at home. I see nothin special about their schedule when all their hard games are in the comfort of home.

Oh and their coach is a raging idiot, as I've mentioned before. I am waiting for LSU to lose just so they will just shut up and go away.

So the top three in the country are LSU, Cal and Ohio State. And then after that, the rankings get really messy. If nothing else, it adds suspense to the national title picture.

**I totally picked the upset of the day. Tennessee put the beat down on 12th ranked Georgia, and I should have taken this bet to the bank.
Okay so it wasn't the biggest upset of the day. The USC-Stanford has claim to that title. But it was a pretty lopsided match up and I called it perfectly. Tennessee won 35-14, and it should have been 35-7 really. It doesn't really help to say this now, but I should have put my money where my mouth was. I told you people, I was making some ballsy picks. And I got two out of three. That ain't half bad.

And plus right now I need to put my money where my rent bill is, not where my mouth is. But I'm working on it, alright?

**I knew the Yankees would, somehow and some way, manage to complain about losing to Cleveland on Friday night.
Well I was waiting for this. It happens every time something doesn't get magically handed to the Yankees. The whole bit has been done to death.

In case you haven't already heard, the Yankees-Indians game Friday night was infested by bugs called midges. And that's putting it mildly. Let's just say there were more bugs flying around than any camping trip I've ever been on.

But yet another Yankee is complaining and basically making excuses for why they lost Game 2. Side note -- the Yankees excel at doing this.
"I would have probably pulled us off the field...I think it's hard enough for our young kids to go out there and concentrate in that situation to have something like that happen," said Clemens, the Yankees' Game 3 starter for Sunday.
Is this guy serious? But I would expect this kind of thing from one of the Yankees. It's always something. They never lose because they suck, right? It's always explained by something else. For one, it's not like the bugs were only bugging the Yankees players and somehow affecting only their play.

Newsflash to Roger Clemens -- those bugs were EVERYWHERE Roger. They were on everyone just like they were on you.

Yeah it's true that Joba Chamberlain threw two wild pitches during the time the bugs were on the loose. Those two wild pitches ended up costing the Yankees the game in the end. I don't know about you, but I think it would actually be harder to bat with bugs all over my face, than to pitch. But again, that's just me talking. I don't know exactly what it's like to be pitching and batting with bugs all over my neck and face. But I'm just saying, they were swarming around everyone on both teams.

As Doug Mientkiewicz, the Yankees firstbaseman, even said about the bugs, "He (Chamberlain) had them all over his neck and his back. But then again, so did their guys."

There will be more complaining from the Yankees. And I can't wait to hear what it's going to be next time.
