Gary Payton Just Needs To Retire Already

Instead, Payton wants to go back to play for the Boston Celtics. It just so happens that the Boston Celtics have the best record in the NBA at 21-4. Gary Payton pisses me off. I mean, ever since Payton left Seattle back in 2003, all he's been doing is riding the coat tails of younger, better players in his "quest" for an NBA title. It seems that his "quest" consists of demanding a trade to whatever team is the best in the NBA, riding their bench and hoping they win the NBA championship.

Here are the last three teams Gary Payton has played for:

2003-04: Demanded to be traded to the Lakers, who were one of the best teams in the NBA. He never ended up getting to win the title the season he played in Los Angeles.

2004-05: Was shipped to Boston. If I recall correctly, he was traded there. But they weren't good enough for him, so he cried and whined about not wanting to be there. The Celtics made the playoffs in the year that Payton played there, but lost in round one. At the end of his one year there, he bolted.

2005-06: Was signed by the Miami Heat. Miami won the NBA title this year. His "goal" had finally been achieved.

So now that Miami is practically in rebuilding mode, he wants to be shipped to the best team in the NBA. This quote from his agent just says it all.

"Gary's interest is only with teams he can play with and compete with to win a championship," Goodwin said.

Gary, please just retire. You're making yourself look really, really desperate at this point.
