Two nights. Two different movies. And it just so happened that both of these movies left me with that unsatisfactory "what the crap just happened" feeling.
First let's start with Rendition. It was one of those post-9/11, war times, kind of movies. At least this is the situation in which the story was based. What happens is that a suicide bomber blows up a public square and kills about 19 people and injures about 60 more. Typical Hollywood let's-make-a-movie-about-the-middle-east type stuff. The US apprehends an Egyptian-American as he lands in the US returning from a business trip in South Africa, and they jump right into interrogation.
Turns out they need to move him out of the United States so they can use "more persuasive" methods of interrogation. I don't wanna give the rest of the plot away, so I'll stop there. The overall "message" that the movie was trying to force down my throat was that yes, America torchers like 45 people everyday, and there ain't a damn thing any of us can do about it.
The weirdest part of this movie, was that it seemingly had two completely separate plot lines going on at the same exact time. Which I've never seen anything like it before. And the weirder part was that the two stories never were connected at all in the movie. So it was practically two different movies that you were watching at the same time. I spent the entire movie waiting for the link to be found between the guy getting torchered and the terrorist plan that had been carried out. It never happened.
Other than that, on a more general level, the movie was a bit slow-moving. Hardly any climax at all. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars.
Next, we have the movie Next. Starring Nick Cage, Jessica Biel and Julianne Moore. I was a bit hesistant when I saw it had Nick Cage in it, but then I quickly saw the name Jessica Biel right next to it, and was able to convince my skeptical self to sit down and tough this one out.
This movie was actually very very cool up until the ending. The ending was a total ripoff. I was pretty much glued to the plot and then it took a big poop for the ending. That's all, just a big old dump right in my lap. That's all I got from the ending of this flick.
Anyway, did I mention it had Jessica Biel in it? Yeah it was pretty decent. I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Go pick up both of these flicks actually. They would both be worth your precious time.
