It seems that nowadays with the Portland-ORSU cross-town rivalry, the momentum has shifted drastically.
For the second time in a row, Portland went out on Saturday afternoon and stuck it to their hated rivals, ORSU. For a little perspective, I played for the Portland Pigs for two seasons, and never got close to beating ORSU. They always dominated us. In fact, the rumor was that Portland hadn't beaten ORSU in something like, 10 years.
Whatever the exact number was, it suffices to say that it was a long time.
All that has changed. They game on Saturday was surprisingly un-stressful. Even with the Pig's 20-13 victory back in September, there was a point where the game could have fallen to either side. Not so with this match. They don't keep track of individual stats in rugby, but all that matters is that Portland dominated in every way. We tackled better, we held onto the ball longer, and scored with a certain amount of ease.
I arrived at the game a little late, and it was already 13-0. I had to take care of some "buiness" in the park bathroom, and when I came back, Portland had scored two more tries and it was 25-0. It was just that simple.
This game proved once again that rugby is such a great game. Everyone should watch rugby on a weekly basis. It's good for the heart, people.
Here's how the current standing look like in the league:
1. Portland 5-1-1
2. Snake River 5-0-0
3. Tsunamis 3-1-1
4. Axemen 3-3-0
5. ORSU 2-4-0
6. Valley 2-5-0
7. Tacoma 0-6-0
(top 2 teams will make the playoffs at the end of the spring season...)
