Re-examining My NBA Preview

So I decided to get a little retrospective tonight. I decided it'd be fun to look back, and see how utterly retarded my NBA picks (made in October) are looking right about now. Sadly, the answer -- very utterly retarded.

Well I guess they're not that bad. We're not even to the playoffs yet, so there is still some hope for the standings to shift around to look more like mine. Overall, it wasn't hard to guess who the good teams were going to be. It usually isn't from year to year. There are just a few teams that are really messing me up right now. Take a look.

Teams I was pretty right-on about: Portland, Atlanta, Detroit, Boston, Toronto, Denver, Sacramento.

Teams I was way off the mark about: LA Lakers, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls.

All the teams that I misjudged were either a lot better than I thought (Lakers, Philly, Orlando) or a lot more crappy than I imagined (Chicago and Miami). Oh well, I'm no expert though.

My conference finals and NBA finals picks are still pretty solid however. I got Detroit beating Boston in the East finals, and Phoenix edging out Dallas for the West crown. Then, in the Finals, I have the Suns beating the Pistons. Here's to hoping those pansy Mavericks make me look good. Or at least a little bit better than I already do.

*Quick NBA food-for-thought: Talking about the Blazers (which we weren't, but still). Okay, their season has been a success if you ask me. They've had a good year so far. Are they the greatest thing since sliced bread? No. Are they going to make the playoffs this season? No. But have they exceeded most people's expectations for this season, especially while playing the entire year without #1 draft pick Greg Oden? Sure they have. They've been pretty fun to watch all year long. And it's only going to get better from here on out.

They are currently 35-33 and sitting at 10th in the Western Conference. The thing that really grinds my gears, is their record as it stands and if the playoffs started today, would land them a fifth seed in the Eastern Conference! FIFTH!! How crappy is that?!? Let us play more of the Miami's and Chicago's of the world, and we'll be just fine.
