Here Is The Rundown

Well it seems like I haven't blogged in, like, a month or so.  It's been a good break though, you know, enjoying the blissfulness of being newly married and what not.  But until last night, it had been a whole 4 days (at least) since I had turned on SportsCenter.

Let me repeat: I did not watch a lick of ESPN for at least 4 whole days.  Do you know how that kind of thing can affect a man?  Withdrawals start after only 2 days.  Anyway, not the point.

The point is that I am way out of the sports loop right now.  I feel lost and disoriented in the 'current event forest', if you will.  I've heard a lot about the All Star game, the British Open, and The Dark Knight.  So here is my attempt at getting caught up with all the cool stuff that is happening.

Darius Miles is attempting a comeback.  And I hope he fails miserably.  The first thing I thought when I saw this silly headline was "Are you freaking serious?!?"  Here in Portland, we have had enough of the wasted talent that is Darius Miles.  He represents the last of an era that the city and the team would love to forget about completely.  If he actually gets signed by an NBA team and plays 10 or more games, his $9 million dollar contract will go back on the team's books.  What a cheap move, but I wouldn't expect anything else from Miles.

I love how the article says that Miles is looking to join a contender (no sh*t, who would want to play for the Grizzlies?) because he hasn't made the playoffs in his 6 years of playing basketball.  Breaking news: The teams that Miles has played for never made the playoffs because of one common problem: Darius Miles.  Oh, annnnnnnd along with his "out of this world" talent, he will also shoot up a couple strip clubs in town too.  Speaking in terms of NBA free agents, he is quite the catch.

Kenyan runner Lucas Sang was murdered mysteriously on Dec. 31, 2007.  This story is far from cool in any way, shape or form but it was a great read.  I have never really heard anything about this Lucas Sang fella, but he seemed to have quite the impact, especially in his native Kenya.  Probably didn't remember much about him because I was all of seven years old when he ran in the '88 Olympic games in Seoul.

Q&A with Greg Oden on Yahoo's Ball Don't Lie.  Great stuff from GO.  He's always a good interview, even though he's been interviewed, like, 50 times and hasn't even played a game.  We're excited here in Portland for the upcoming season.  A starting five of Oden, Aldridge, Outlaw, Roy and Blake.  The rumor is that Jerryd Bayless is ripping up the summer league, so he may be sharing a good portion of the PG duties with ol' Stevie Blake.

Either way you look at it, it should be a good season.  I have a feeling the Blazers are going to pull a psuedo-New Orleans Hornets type season.  Not a 2-seed-in-the-Western-Conference-type season, mind you, but I think the Blazers are going to surprise a lot of people as did the Hornets this last season.

This whole Brett Farve mess.  Part of me thinks that Brett Favre should be able to do whatever the hell he wants.  I mean, he is Brett Freaking Favre, right?  But the other part of me doesn't get why the hell Brett wants to come back to stuff like this week after week when you can just sit back and collect a cool $30 million plus from the Packers for doing, get this, nothing.

If it were me, I would sit back and watch the free money roll in and play lots and lots of Nintendo Wii or work on my golf swing.  At least something a little less hard core than professional football.  But if Favre's passion bucket is not yet emptied, then he should be able to do what he wants to do.
