Well it's approaching that time of year. MLB playoffs are right around the corner. And as opposed to last year, I am very happy to report that the Red Sox will be making the playoffs. We are a comfortable seven games in front of the Spankees, and we're actually playing great ball right now.
I want to introduce you to Jacoby Ellsbury.
Last night, we beat Toronto 5-3 at Fenway. Some of the win was due to the brilliance of Josh Beckett (will win the AL Cy Young award). But coupled with Beckett's brilliance, was what rookie outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury contributed. He had a homer, a triple and a single. Now this was only the 11th game that Ellsbury has played in the major leagues this year, but a special trend is starting to form with this kid. And the trend is this...
He is frickin awesome. He's got the stats to prove it too.
Okay, so those stats are out of this world, I understand this. But I meant, that for only playing 11 major league games, they're pretty outstanding. By the way, he pretty much dominated in the minor leagues, and that's why he was called up so quickly by the Sox.
He grew up in the middle of nowhere in Madras, Oregon. Went to Madras High School (what other high schools do you have to choose from in or around Madras, OR??). And he was a superstar at Oregon State, where he won a national title. Now I wouldn't say that he is a power hitter by any means, but he does pretty much everything else very well. Speed and hitting for average seem to be the name of his game so far in his games with the Sox. And I am very proud to say that he is from the state of Oregon.
So keep an eye on Jacoby Ellsbury, I have a feeling he's going to be a very good player for long time to come. He even is good at fixing manual scoreboards in his spare time.
