This Madness Needs To Stop

And when I refer to 'madness', I am referring to Boston College winning.

Oh and also their #2 ranking in this week's BCS poll.

Boston College is a joke people. And I don't mean to sound like a complete hater on this. I have to give them credit for their comeback win at Virginia Tech last night. I mean, I watched the last two minutes of that game, and didn't know what hit me. But other than that, who have they beat? Better yet, who have they even played.

The biggest reason that I just can't buy their #2 ranking and all the hooplah is that they play in the ACC, which is probably the worst conference in the entire country. Call me a Pac-10 homer, but the ACC is really crappy.

This season has been all over the place, competitively speaking. There have been lots of upsets and so no one really can be sure who is the best team in the country. It's definitely not ohio state (still won't capitalize their name), just look at who they've played. Tell me who counts as a quality win on that list. Except for one or two wins, you're practically looking at the equivilant of Hawaii's schedule (rated easiest in the country officially).

So "the ohio state" shouldn't be number one. Boston College sure as heck shouldn't be number two. But I suppose if we're rewarding teams that win, sure, these two teams are 1st and 2nd in the country. Shall we add Arizona State and Hawaii as 3rd and 4th while we're at it? Right?

Let's not go that far.

The problem is that the rankings usually don't take into account strength of schedule for teams, as much as they should. The one poll that's out there that does place a huge emphasis on strength of schedule and how good a team really is, is the Oddsmakers Poll put out by the Las Vegas Sports Consultants. I can't seem to locate this poll on a weekly basis so it's been a couple weeks since I looked at it. But last time I checked, LSU was atop the rankings, even with their loss to Kentucky. Which, despite how much I personally loathe LSU, makes somewhat more sense than having "the" ohio state university as number one.

So I could go on and on all day about why teams shouldn't be ranked where they are currently ranked, but I am just going to make my own list of the top 10 teams in the country right now, the way that I see them. I mean, what do the AP voters know that I don't about college football? I spend every Saturday following the games, just like they do.

1. the ohio state (8-0)

I hate putting them here. But they have trashed everyone they've played, but that still isn't saying much. Look on the bright side, they are probably going to get beat down by Penn State tomorrow.

2. Boston College (8-0)

Ooooooh. Impressive. Again, I don't get it. But they did beat #8 Virginia Tech on the road last night, and they have won all their games. Please just don't let them get into the national championship game, please.

3. Oregon (6-1)

This isn't me picking the home team, because I am definitely not a Duck fan. But they are playing better than almost anyone else in the country. Big test vs. USC tomorrow. I think they win the Pac-10 if they beat USC.

4. LSU (7-1)

"Les Miles is a Homeaux." Friggin awesome sign huh? I just love it. Click here to get why this sign (made by some kid from Oklahoma) is so damn funny. LSU is still real good. One thing they have over all the other top rated teams is that they play a hell of schedule.

5. West Virginia (6-1)

After getting tripped up by the frauds from South Florida, they have pasted every other team they've played. They are the only legitimate title contender from the Big East.

6. Florida (5-2)

Yes I know they have lost twice. Sure they won't get to the title game, but as of right now, they could beat half of the other top ten teams, so I am putting them up here. I don't think they will lose again, for what it's worth.

7. Arizona State (7-0)

Sun Devils haven't really been tested, but I would venture to say that they have played tougher teams than ohio state has. They smoked a very good Colorado team back before Colorado beat Oklahoma. They've taken care of business quite nicely.

8. Oklahoma (7-1)

Since losing to Colorado, the Sooners haven't exactly been stellar. I don't know how to read this team actually, but when they click on offense, they are unstoppable.

9. USC (6-1)

Huge test for this team coming up in Eugene playing Oregon. I don't think they win, too many guys out with injuries. It doesn't get any easier for the Trojans, so they might not be a top ten team for very much longer. It's all hinging on tomorrow's outcome.

10. Kansas (7-0)

This is a fun one, now isn't it? This team would be competing with BC, South Florida and ohio state if they had a poll called the "This Team is a Joke" poll. I would take Kentucky, California and South Florida to beat Kansas any day of the week. Kansas has played no team of any significance, but again, they are undefeated.

Well I must get back to work now. College picks coming tomorrow morning.
