Many years ago, Mike Dunleavy and our very own Portland Trail Blazers invented the "Hack-a-Shaq" strategy. And tonight, as you can see, it looks like James Jones perfected it. It ended up not working very well though.
Two things about tonight's 97-92 home loss to Phoenix. One, why in the sam hell does Portland always have to spot the other team, like, 15-20 points right out of the gate? Doesn't it seem like keeping pace with a team from the start of the game would work better? Heck, even scoring more points than the other team could work too? Maybe it's just me that is having trouble understanding that.
And two. After tonight's game I don't see how Phoenix has a snowball's chance in hell of making a run to the NBA finals out of the west. Portland is a great team that never gives up and all, but Phoenix was up by 19 freaking points at the half and thoroughly dominated the Blazers in the first half. And then after all that domination, they still let them back in it. If the Blazers didn't shoot something like 0 for 30 (kidding but still you get the point...) in the final 5 minutes of the game, the Blazers would have stolen this game from the Suns.
Just some random thoughts, guys. Who's everyone rooting for to win the NBA title anyway? Here's to anyone but the Lakers...
Hey, a guy can dream can't he?
