Word around baseball today is that Jonny Gomes will fight anyone, anywhere and Carl Crawford will scratch out your eyes. You've been warned: don't mess with the Tampa Bay Rays.I really like the Rays, so I'm not going to bash them here much. This situation, much like most other bench clearing brawls, was blown out of proportion. Coco probably shouldn't have tried to take out Iwamura the night before and Shields probably didn't have to start off the game throwing at Coco Crisp. All that said, it was pretty entertaining to watch actually. Good stuff.
The one thing that puzzled us a bit was how exactly the Rays go about fighting. Jonny Gomes is straight off the street apparently, and will punch you anywhere and at any point during the game. He felt the need to take matters into his own hands again last night, even though he had nothing to do with the play. (He will probably get suspended for his actions.) And I guess Carl Crawford will scratch your face off? Yeah, kinda weird right? That's allegedly who Crisp is talking about when he references "scratch out my eyes."

Apparently, he didn't like the way on of the Rays players blocked the bag on a previous stolen base attempt. So he was getting Iwamura back for that. At any rate, it was way overblown on both sides.
