Paul Pierce is an American Hero

At least that is how everyone is acting.  And this is precisely why this Boston Celtics team bugs me so much.  This is why, for the first time in my life, I am sort of rooting for Kobe and the Lakers to win the title.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Pierce was faking the injury.  He heard his knee pop so obviously he was going to act a bit cautiously.  I don't blame him for not wanting to get up right away and do possible further damage to your knee.  But did they really have to carry the dude off the floor and then use a wheelchair to get him the rest of the way?  I mean, talk about a little overdramatic.

The funniest thing about the entire day yesterday was how everyone was calling this his "Willis Reed moment" and comparing Pierce's heroic comeback to that of Reed's back in 1970.  If you believe this folks, then "Team NBA" has officially fooled you.  This isn't even close to what Willis Reed did.

I'm no medical expert but here's my take on this.  First of all, the way they carried him off the court was freaking ridiculous!  Are you saying that you couldn't just carry him off in the normal way when knee injuries are suffered?  Did Paul Pierce's other knee suddenly give out too??  Give me a break.  Simply overdramatic.  And if this was that serious of an injury, he probably would have been in the locker room for a little bit longer.  Doesn't that make sense?  He was back on the court in less than what--three minutes?

I'm not saying that, initially, the injury to his knee could not have been serious.  But people are still blowing this way out of proportion.  Pierce is just a big ol' drama queen.
