Auburn's Cam Newton Wins The Heisman Trophy

Cam Newton won the Heisman Trophy about an hour ago in NYC, in case you've been living under a rock or something.  He was the clear favorite, and the whole ceremony was just a formality really.

Andrew Luck from Stanford, came in 2nd, followed by LaMichael James and Kellen Moore of Boise State brought up the rear.  Newton beat out Luck by 1,184 points.  On a whopping 93% of the ballots that were returned, Cam Newton's name was number one on the list.

The most interesting part of the whole thing is the fact that a total of 105 ballots came back without Newton's name on it at all.  I'd be very interested to know which voters didn't put Newton's name on their ballot.  Maybe we'll find out in a couple of years when Newton is ruled ineligible and they take his Heisman Trophy away, as I expect to happen.  But by then, he'll be making millions and millions in the NFL and will not care a bit about anything to do with the Heisman Trophy.

Good for Newton though.  He is quite the game-changing player on the field, and we look forward to seeing how he does in the NFL.  Our favorite line from his speech, based solely on the amount of irony it possessed was this: "My parents do a lot of things behind the scenes that go unnoticed."

Psst.  Cam, buddy.  Have you been paying attention at all this season?  Trust me, your dad isn't really going unnoticed.

Update:  We actually agree with Clay Travis here, but there's going to be a lot of this sort of talk now that Newton has officially won the trophy.
