Saw this interesting tidbit from Mike Tokito of The Oregonian, in today's NBA High-5 column. Matthews, who because of Brandon Roy's knee problems, has become a starter for the Blazers. Seems as though when he came out of college, the Kings didn't consider him good enough to even make their putrid roster.
One interesting note from last night's came was about Blazers guard Wesley Matthews. He played for the Kings' summer league team out of college in 2009, but they did not sign him. Matthews, as we all know by now, made the Jazz in training camp, had a strong rookie season, then signed a free-agent deal with Portland and has become a key starter for the Blazers.
"It's really a good story because a lot of teams, including us, missed on him," Sacramento coach Paul Westphal tells Jones. "He's become quite a player in this league, and it didn't take him too long."
If you were to ask Wesley, and he was being honest, he's probably pretty dang glad that he didn't get signed by the Kings. But, as always, hindsight is 20/20. Still, I'm sure glad he's here in Portland and contributing and not getting lost in the shuffle in Sac-town.
