I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I think that the Seattle Seahawks need to move on without Matt Hasselbeck and go and get Kevin Kolb while they have the chance. Hasselbeck isn't getting any younger and I think if Seattle really wanted to keep him, they would have signed him by now. But they didn't, even before the lockout started.
Last week, Don Banks talked about Seattle's interest in Kolb in his Snap Judgements column. When Pete Carroll was asked about his team's interest in Kolb, he said, "There's no conversations going on,'' said Carroll, perhaps notably dropping into present tense. "Not what you want. I talk to [Eagles head coach] Andy [Reid] a lot. I like Andy a lot.''
Banks continued:
And my sense is Carroll likes Kolb a lot, too. According to SI's Peter King, the Eagles reportedly have already been offered a first-round pick by one interested team, and Seattle is certainly among the leading suspects. The Seahawks tried trading for an unproven quarterback of the future last offseason with the Charlie Whitehurst deal, and given the move wasn't exactly a smashing success, it stands to reason they have Kolb in their sights.
There can't be any level-headed reasonable person in the Seahawks organization that thinks Charlie Whitehurst is really the answer, can there? Charlie Whitehurst is not a starting QB in the NFL, and there's no way to put that nicely. He's just not. And there is almost no chance of winning in the NFL without a solid quarterback. Not in today's NFL. So the Seahawks would be well served to go out and get Kolb while he is available.

In Banks' opinion, the Seahawks will be the team to go after Kolb the hardest. "Seattle is likely to have competition for Kolb, of course. Minnesota, Arizona, San Francisco and Tennessee all make some sense. But for now, I'm leaving my buck on the Seahawks and Carroll being the most aggressive pursuer. Making the bold move has certainly been Carroll's track record during his brief Seattle tenure."
