I Saw That Game Going Differently in My Head

David Tyree. Michael Strahan. Osi Umenyiora. Justin Tuck. Jay Alford.

These five men will forever be the source of heartache and pain for me. Obviously, I am pretty upset today, and don't see this pain fading any time soon. But Andrew, what about the incomparable, amazing, outstanding, brilliant, prodigy, future-Hall-of-Famer Eli Manning, you say? Shouldn't he be first on that list you just made?

Not. at. all. Don't even get me started about Eli Manning.

Yes, I am bitter about the game. Yes, I am feeling quite disappointed and deflated. But I'm trying to be at least a little logical here. I don't understand how the Giants went out and actually beat my Patriots, 17-14. But I can honestly say that the recently-crowned "legendary" Eli Manning isn't the most to blame, or shall I say credit, for the G-Men winning last night. Two Reasons why I say that:

1. It was Strahan, Umenyiora (yes I had to copy and paste his name), Tuck and Alford who sacked Tom Brady five times and pressured him pretty much every time he snapped the ball for the rest of the game. It wasn't Eli Manning.

2. David Tyree is the one that had that miraculous one handed/helmet catch on third and 5, with 75 seconds left in the game. If you ask me, if he doesn't catch that ball, the Giants don't score the game winning TD. Yes Manning broke free to throw him the ball, but if Tyree doesn't catch it, it makes no difference who threw it to him, right?

I am trying my best today to not be a sore loser, so I'm going to tip my hat to Eli for playing a great game. He did, he played good football and did just enough to keep that final drive alive. And yes, I suppose you can say that Eli has arrived, whatever that means. But still, the MVP? I wouldn't give it to him. But I guess you can't give the MVP trophy to the entire Giants defensive line. Maybe they should have had four MVP trophies made up, because Strahan, Umen-however you say his name, Tuck and Alford are the ones that I think deserve the MVP honor.

In retrospect, this past season seems like a huge waste of my time and fanhood. Oh well, the Pats were beaten by a superior opponent. I'll get over it...eventually. But I love how Michael Strahan is now talking of a - get this - Giants dynasty. Michael, you just kicked ass in the Super Bowl, and I'll give you props, but let's not get carried away right? Okay. Plus Strahan's probably going to retire after this season. Or at least I hope. Here's my bold prediction for next season: I will go and say that I don't think the Giants will make the playoffs this next year. And I'm not just hating on them when I say that. I just think that this season was the perfect storm for the usually-dysfunctional Giants, and that dysfunction will most likely return next year.

So there ya go. I don't have a lot more to say about the big game. My favorite part was the Tom Petty halftime show, as you would probably guess. I'm still a little deflated, so be nice to me.

If you want to read a good article about the game, here's a good one by Michael Silver at Yahoo Sports. His column was one of the 2 that I am going to read, out of the thousands that are out there this morning.
