Malcolm Marable, The Oregon Ducks And Duck Fans

This past Sunday morning, at precisely 1:01 AM, Malcolm Marable, who plays cornerback for the Oregon State Beavers, was pulled over and ticketed for speeding.  Marable was clocked driving 104 mph on Interstate 5, in a car that didn't belong to him, and without proper documentation.  His total fine was reported as being $1,148 bucks.

This offseason has not been a kind one for Mike Riley and the Beavers.  Riley's already had to suspend two other defensive backs for getting into trouble, and something like this surely does not help things in Corvallis.  Marable has been suspended indefinitely now, and Riley is going to make sure he pays for his poor choices.

Unless you are a die-hard Beaver fan, listen to sports radio on a daily basis, or follow local Beaver blogs, you may not have heard much about this story yet.  It is getting media attention, just not that much media attention.  And the coverage that this story is getting isn't very in-depth or complex.  It's had a feel of "okay, here is something stupid this football player did a few days ago, he's been punished, and now you can proceed with the rest of your day as regularly scheduled."

If John Canzano has written a scathing column about it, I haven't seen it yet.  He may have talked about it on his radio show though, but I don't listen to his show regularly, so I haven't heard it mentioned on there.  The dudes over on Primetime has most likely mentioned it, but it surely has not generated many listeners who feel the need to call in to the show to talk about it, like what transpired when Cliff Harris was caught breaking the law in virtually the same fashion.

Everyone has kinda, sorta moved on from this Malcolm Marable story and don't care that much anymore.  Well, everyone, except for Duck fans, of course.

Harvey Updyke Is Still A Sad, Sad Little Man

Correction: he doesn't look like a very little man at all, probably pretty large in person actually, but you get the point.

ESPN.com's Wright Thompson wrote an article the other day that painted a pretty sad and depressing story of the infamous Toomer's Corner tree poisoner.  When this story first broke, I was pretty hard on the guy and suggested that this guy should be put in jail for being really stupid.  He currently is facing four felony charges and two misdemeanors, a could face a maximum of 42 years in prison.  Now, chances are he's not going to get the max number of years in jail, but after reading this article, I'm not sure he deserves to spend any time in the joint at all.

Now Harvey Updyke is still a top flight jackass, don't get me wrong there.  But prison?  Seems a bit harsh, even for him.

Mark Cuban Sounds Like A Really Cool Guy. Or Not.

One day, folks.  That's all it took Mark Cuban's douchiness to get him in the headlines again.  Saw this nugget posted on Blazersedge.com, where longtime Portland reporter Kerry Eggers had an interesting exchange with Cuban after the infamous Game 4.

Here is Eggers' account of what transpired.

Cuban had made the news when he got hit by some sort of projectile in the fourth quarter of Game 3 at the Rose Garden. I’d heard some repartee between the Mavericks’ colorful owner and Blazer fans may have precipitated it, but the only quote I’d seen from him was, “Somebody hit me in the face. Somebody threw something and it hit me.”

I started the interview by asking Cuban if he knew what hit him.  “I got hit by something,” he said, pleasantly enough. “All I know is the pretty lady next to me jumped, something hit me in my face and that was it.”  Any idea what the object was?  Suddenly, Cuban’s mood darkened to the color of the Dallas sky (tornado warnings) that afternoon.

Things That I'm Tired Of This Week: Mark Cuban And His Skin Tight T-Shirts

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!
I want to start this post out by sharing some very exclusive quotes from Mark Cuban after every single one of Dallas' 27 losses this season, up to this point.  I want to give credit to the PSG research team for all their hard work and focus in obtaining these quotes from Cuban.

Remember, these are quotes from every game the Mavericks have lost this season.  Here's what he said.

"Wahhhhhhhhh wahhhhhhhhhh waaaahhhhhhhhhh.  My team lost this game!  And it was all the refs fault!  It's a conspiracy against my team.  All the refs in the league hate us and want us to lose!  Screw you David Stern!  Screw you NBA!  I hate all of you!!!    Wahhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

Pretty crazy huh?  He said the same exact thing every time his team lost.  What are the odds?

Stop the presses, people.  Mark Cuban is pissed about the officiating in the NBA.  Totally came out of the blue, I know.  Apparently, amateur referee-in-training Mark Cuban has analyzed the game film from game 4 of the Mavs-Blazers series, and has found two specific plays, where if the referees hadn't been paid off to make the Blazers win, and the calls went in Dallas' favor, the Mavericks clearly would have prevailed and the series would already be over and the Mavericks would be on their way to being the basketball champions of the universe.

Or something like that.
